For students wishing to develop their IT skills from level 2 to level 3, this route offers a progression pathway to access the Cambridge Technical in IT at Introductory Diploma level. The Cambridge

Technical levels are regarded by many universities and employers as the best qualification to help prepare students for life in the IT industry.

Course Overview
Year 1

This qualification is designed for learners 16 years old or over, who want to continue their education by developing their knowledge and understanding of the principles of IT and global information systems. In year 1 there are two mandatory units (Fundamentals of IT and Global information systems), both of which are externally assessed.

The units provide learners with an insight into the IT sector as they investigate the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure, the flow of information on a global scale and important legal and security considerations. In year 2, there are optional coursework units, at present these are project management, virtual and augmented reality and looking at the Smarter Planet initiatives.

Year 2

Level 3 Cambridge Technical provides a strong base for progression to university, apprenticeships or work and are recognised for UCAS tariff points.

This qualification pathway prepares students for a wide variety of roles in the IT industry; Networking, Support or even Cyber Security. It establishes the knowledge to allow progression onto higher level apprenticeships or Higher Education.

I enjoy the fact that this qualification has a mix of external exams and internally assessed coursework.
